Three Green Things in October 2022

Every month we share three ideas, organizations, brands and events that can add sustainability to our lifestyle.

1) CHOMP

Do you know 40% of our landfills come from food-waste? How can we rethink the food distribution system and work with F&B businesses to tackle this problem? CHOMP took the first step to create a food-saving app that onnects F&B businesses like restaurants, grocery stores and bakeries to customers who can purchase a “Mystery Box” of unsold food items from them. Everything from fresh fruit, pastries and vegan cakes to restaurant-quality meals (think banh mi sandwiches and vegetarian dumplings) are up for grabs from some of our fave retailers including Live Zero, Sweetpea Cafe, Bahn Mi Kitchen and LockCha Tea House.

Follow their instagram (@chompfoodwaste) for tips and tricks for reducing your food waste at home.

2) Breer

Food upcycling is another way to reduce food waste and turn our food into something new.

Breer, a local craft beer made from upcycled bread collected from bakery chains such as A1 and Maxim’s and supermarkets in Hong Kong, would help alleviate food waste and reduce the cost of beer-making. From their collection point to dispatch, the entire process is recorded into their Breer App, which will provide the whole supply chain to ensure transparency in the production line.

3) Planeteers

"Say no to straws." is no longer the only way to reduce plastic foodware. Now you can pair your food with these edible cutleries by Planeteers.

They provide a variety of flavors designed to complement any situation. From edible straws with Chocolate, Strawberry, Coffee, Vanilla, Lemon, and Mint flavors to yummy dessert cups for the sweet tooth. They are also vegan and nutritious, so you stay healthy while keeping the planet happy.
